My name is Denise. I came to Hamburg in 1992 to improve my knowledge of the German language. I immediately fell in love with the Free and Hanseatic city, the Alster; the lake in the center of the city, the largest harbour in Germany, the Red Light district, the warehouse district, the architecture, the cultural life, the opera house, the parks that make it the greenest city in Europe, the many bridges, the history of the city and the wonderful way of life.

Town Hall, Jungfernstieg, Mönckebergstrasse
After the Town Hall of Hamburg burnt down completely in 1842, the new Town Hall was inaugurated in 1897 and was erected on more than 4000 oak piles.
The Jungfernstieg on the Alster is Hamburg's shopping and promenade street. There are a lot of exquisite shops, restaurants and hotels….
The Mönckebergstrasse is the main shopping street in Hamburg.
Rathaus (Town Hall)
After the Town Hall of Hamburg had burnt down completely in 1842, the council temporarily moved into temporary premises - for 55 years!
Historical Speicherstadt (Warehousedistrict
and habour city
)

The historical Speicherstadt (warehouse district), built in 1888, is the world’s largest single stretch of warehouses. It was here in these new-gothic buildings (brick architecture) that goods from all over the world entered Europe duty-free for further transport. Especially coffee, tea and spices were stored here. Today, the Speicherstadt is home to several museums and exhibitions.
The Reeperbahn (Red light district) – 2 hours
The Reeperbahn ( St. Paul) is Hamburg’s most famous street. Infamous for its erotic shops, numerous strip bars and easy girls, the Reeperbahn is a magnet for those who like to go out on the town. Whether you’re looking to visit theatres, musicals or museums - or simply want to take a pub crawl and dance the night away - you’re sure to find something that’s just right for you.
The Beatles – 2 hours
The Beatles regularly performed at different clubs in Hamburg. during the period from August 1960 to December 1962; a chapter in the group's history which honed their performance skills, widened their reputation, and led to their first recording

St Michaelis Church & Krammeramtsstuben
(shopkeeper office flats)
The St. Michaelis Church is one of the most important Baroque monuments of Northern Germany. It is the symbol of the city.
Beside the Church, the Krammeramtsstuben (shopkeeper office flats) were built in the 17 th century.. A narrow alley runs between these half-timber houses.
Blankenese
A district of Hamburg where the fishermen and the captains used to live. It is situated along the river the Elbe on a hill with its traditional houses and a wonderful view.
BallinStadt – 3 hours
The BallinStadt is an emigration museum in Hamburg, which was built on the site of the former emigrants' halls. It was built over 100 years after the Hapag (maritime company) owner Albert Ballin built the first emigrant halls. In three carefully restored buildings, visitors can relive the stories of people who emigrated from here to overseas.
Neuengamme Concentration Camp – 5 hours
The Neuengamme Concentration Camp, located on the historical site of the camp, commemorates the over 100,000 people who were imprisoned in the largest concentration camp in Northwest Germany during World War II.
