Restaurant Föllerei - Kreuzberg & Neukölln |
|
|
The Quarters Kreuzberg and Neukölln
Kreuzberg, formerly part of the West, is a quarter well known for its great variety. It is the Turkish quarter as well as quarter of artists and squatters, and in the last 20 years it has become an in-place with still increasing attractiveness. Visiting Kreuzberg you see the true Berlin of Berliners. Among the well known spots to see (and there are many), we recommend to visit the Jewish Museum, the avenue Mehringdamm, the Bergmannstraße, the Victoria-Park, the complete stretch of the canal “Landwehrkanal” with his port and the Oranienstraße. The map below might help to get orientated and to plan a nice walk around the quarter. A last comment on Neukölln, this quarter is actually developing to become the new “Kreuzberg”, the way we knew it 20 years ago. Therefore it is a good idea to get some impressions of Neukölln, too.
The Restaurant “Föllerei” by Christiane Föll
Föllerei, the Sixth of the Seven Main Vices
After or during your walk we warmly recommend you the restaurant Föllerei with its charming and warm atmosphere. The creative and quality cuisine offers German meals with a French touch. For dinner-time a reservation is advisable.
The restaurant is very well located, you get there by following the “Landwehrkanal” and after a short break or a meal at the Föllerei you can go back by subway, passing Neukölln, a quarter that is fastly becoming the new place-to-be, the Berliner “lower east side”. Do not miss it.

For some years now, Prenzlauer Berg has been one of Berlin’s most trendy quarters, both fashionable and bohemian. In any case, it’s a good place to be. Feel the heartbeat of the neighborhood at the “Biomarkt”– an organic food market held twice a week at Kollwitzplatz square (Thursday 12 – 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.) and around the quaint streets brimming with original shops, some of them with a touch of East German nostalgia, and cultural and nightlife venues. The number one address for those who appreciate the spirit of the quarter is the Café-Restaurant Gagarin where local artists and writers are regulars. Anyone who knows and loves Berlin will tell you to explore this charming corner at the foot of the city’s oldest water tower where you can experience the famed spirit of young Berlin at Gagarin.

The Café-Restaurant owes its name to Yuri Gagarin, who was the first man to travel to space. Looking at the menu and the portraits on the walls, you’ll notice the Soviet cosmonaut is ubiquitous... a lively museum dedicated to the former idol, with an ironic whiff of Eastern nostalgia.
The furniture at Gagarin’s is a curious mix of shapes and colors, from different origins. You’ll find anything there, from soft armchairs to spartan stools, including a cozy atmosphere and warm reception. The menu offers a selection of dishes with exotic, but appetizing names. The best way to savor Gagarin’s food is by ordering a choice of dishes. If you’re not hungry, come on in for a coffee – one of the best in town. Take a break and sit back after taking a stroll through this fascinating quarter.
